Research and industrial activity
Carlos Dorronsoro (MSc Optical Physics 1996, MSc Vision Science 2003) is a scientific Consultant for the Center for Research and Development of the Spanish Navy (CIDA) and a PhD student at the Institute of Optics of the Spanish Research Council (IO-CSIC), working under the supervision of Susana Marcos at the Visual Optics and Biophotonics Laboratory.
Dorronsoro has a broad industrial experience in precision optics and ophthalmic optics, optical design, optical manufacturing, optical metrology and testing, cameras (specially for low-light level imaging), image processing, and software development. Prior to his work for the CIDA, Dorronsoro has worked with various optic companies such as Leica (Switzerland), Lep (Spain) or Lenticon Laboratories (Spain). He has broad experience in management and control of research projects, and has participated as Spanish national representative in several international management groups.
His major research interests are all related to visual optics, and oriented to clinical applications: optical performance on eye (measured through aberrometry) of spherical contact lenses, multifocal contact lenses, intraocular lenses, and standard or customized LASIK refractive surgery. One of his goals is to relate optical performance to visual performance. Part of his research (see below) has been supported by AlconCusi (Spain).
He is member of The Association for Research in
Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the Spanish Optical Society (SEDO) and
the Spanish Physics Association (COFIS). he has been awarded a young
researcher distinction by the Spanish Optical Society (2003).
